If we talk about Chinese democracy, they wants control over everything which is happening in there country weather it could be a simple exchange of text message to photo sharing, china is not blocking the Chinese public to use these kind of apps or websites, what they actually wants is that the sites are used must be of Chinese origin.

All the IP addresses of these sites are blocked by the ISPs or the  guards of the china's Internet  under the strict orders of the Government.

This year in March China has abolished presidential term limits.

Stringent Control- The Chinese government controls Internet content and restricts, deletes, or bans content it deems is not in the interest of the state.

Secrets- The government fears that their dirty secrets would be revealed to the world. They want to keep outsiders and their influences out of China. They fear that oppression of public against their policies might lead to their downfall.

Indigeneity- The believe in developing their own apps to keep the outsiders from penetrating their own market.

A recent report from Android Authority claims that Wechat is sharing user data with the Chinese authorities, which includes names, contacts, email addresses, or even a user's exact locations.
The direct result of blocking social media websites like Twitter is beneficial for China. By blocking Twitter, the country is able to utilize its own, homegrown social networks. The main substitute is currently Weibo, a sort of Twitter-Facebook hybrid. There are others as well, such as Wechat . The Wechat service has over 700 million active users, while Weibo has over 600 million users.

1.Google

Yes, you heard it right Google the worlds largest search engine is  blocked in china ,it is blocked since May, 2014 with approximately all the google services like Gmail, google maps, google+, google sites, and even the google APIs, YouTube and Blogspot as well, apart from that the Chinese version of  google map is available there.
YouTube is not completely blocked in china there are two cities  in china where YouTube is still accessible that are in Haikou and Sanya.

Meanwhile china has there own alternatives for all that sites,
YOUKU TUDOU - the YouTube of China
BAIDU - the Google of china

2.Facebook

After Google's Orkut the major social media platform which captures the market is the Facebook, the rapid growth of facbook can be seen easily in any country facbook have 2.23 billion monthly active users. which makes the Facebook the worlds largest social media platform. Facebook was first blocked in July, 2009 to till now.
As recorded in a government transcript, Lu Wei, Director of China’s State Internet Information Office, has clearly and unambiguously stated that any foreign company that wishes to enter the Chinese market needs to comply with the rules and regulations mandatory. The rules and regulations that he is referring to in this statement include –
  • The foreign Internet companies must not indulge in any activities that may hinder the growth of China or harm the national interests of the country.
  • The foreign companies ought to keep the interests of the Chinese consumers in mind and cannot hurt them in any manner whatsoever.

Facebook is not completely blocked it is still accessible in Haikou and Sanya.

Meanwhile the alternative for Facebook in china is the RENREN(the chinese version of Facebook) or Wechat these 2 application which is the major social networking site for china are dominating the market of china.

3.Whatapp

Whatsapp is the worlds no 1 chat application and also become the lifeline for businesses in some countries, Whatsapp is recently blocked in china in year 2017, September 26 till now.

While reasons of blocking the whatsapp is clear, the Chinese government refuses to give there citizens the right to privacy over World Wide Web, or it could be due to the strong end-to-end encryption that protects WhatsApp messages from being decoded or snooped upon. China never wants that the foreign company shares data with Chinese citizens.

4.Twitter

Twitter was also blocked in china in June 2009, while twitter is also accessible in Haikou and Sanya.
This was preceded by a number of riots in the western capital of the Xinjiang province, Urumqi. Minority Muslim activists reportedly used Twitter and Facebook to communicate and organize the riots. The presumption is that the Chinese government was trying to block these sites due to their ease of use in spreading political and social commentary that is in direct contradiction to the Communist government.

5.Instagram

Instagram which is a subsidiary of Facebook, Inc. It was last accessible in year 2014, September. Instagram is also a major photo and video sharing platform in the world.

In china to prevent the proliferation of pictures of the Umbrella Revolution in 2014 the Instagram is banned. Because it was the only social media website as of last that was not censored by the Great Fire Wall of China and was hence a good way of spreading pictures and news about the Umbrella Revolution going on in Hong Kong. Instagram went unnoticed by authorities till the Umbrella Revolution when pictures from the protests started propping up.
after that the Chinese authorities decides to ban the Instagram as well.
Similar bans have taken place in the past. China banned LINE messenger in response to June 4th Anniversary of Tienanmen Square incidence and heavily censored Wechat for the same.

If you are on Internet no one can bound completely there will always a scope for loophole and this also implies to the Chinese government  yes, all these websites are still accessed by the VPN(Virtual Private Network) in some part of chine where the Great Firewall of China fails.
